Weezer will be dropping not one, but two new albums this year now, starting with the piano and orchestral driven Ok Human coming next week on January 29th. Followed by the teased and anticipated hard rock album Van Weezer which had to be shelved last year. It will be released later this spring on May 7th.

Frontman Rivers Cuomo has said about the albums back in 2019 that, “Van Weezer is in mortal combat with Okay Human, a record that’s mostly done. That one’s totally different. It’s inspired by an album from 1970 called Nilsson Sings Newman. It’s all piano-based, but it has a ton of orchestration. We just did the strings at Abbey Road. It’s just gorgeous melodies and extremely eccentric lyrics.”

So far we already have three singles out from Van Weezer: ‘The End Of The Game’, ‘Hero’ and ‘Beginning Of The End’. You can listen to them below. You can even see how the pandemic has shifted their release plan through their music videos, with the first song released being ‘The End of The Game’ back in September 2019.

The second single ‘Hero’ is dedicated to, “This one is for the stay at home dreamers, the zoom graduators, the sourdough bakers, and the essential workers.” It was also released as a way to announce the delay of Van Weezer, which was originally planned for May 2020. “With the good news, comes the bad: unfortunately we’re going to have to delay the release of Van Weezer. As you know, Corona has put a crimp in many well-laid plans. Van Weezer has been no exception. And because we don’t want to give another release date until we’re absolutely sure of it, we’ll just say “stay tuned for more info.”

Lastly, ‘Beginning Of The End’ was released as part of the soundtrack for the movie Bill & Ted Face The Music. They then announced the new ballpark release date for Van Weezer while also leaving a hint about Ok Human in the description, “Quick update on Van Weezer, it is now coming in May 2021 right before the Hella Mega Tour… More music coming for you Humans real soon, Ok?”

Here’s looking forward to getting two whole albums from Weezer this year!
