Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and Layne Staley of Alice In Chains. Two talented men whose lives were cut short by their inner demons in different ways. Even though their deaths were eight years apart, they both sadly passed away on April 5th.

Cobain and Staley were kings in their own right. Both Alice In Chains and Nirvana conquered and carved out a sub-genre of rock music that gave a home to other bands like Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots, as grunge-rock became a popular staple of the 90’s. Shifting away from colorful glam-rock, to a darker, more insightful way to listen to music.

These two men represented a more relatable rock icon that gave their fans a more tangible experience every time they slid on headphones or blasted their CD, perhaps because these rock legends (and more) bared their soul and their struggles through their songs. It’s never an easy task recognizing when you need help. It can be equally difficult to ask for help and take the steps necessary to get on a path of healing.
