On Saturday night, Red Hot Chili Peppers fans got their “treat” a couple days early when the band closed out a benefit concert for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles with a cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

Anthony Kiedis had his face covered with a shirt (???) we’ve learned not to ask after all these years … and  handled the first verse before guitarist John Frusciante, who is a HUGE Nirvana fan, and known for coving this song at his solo shows took over the chorus.

Luckily for us who weren’t there, we can watch some fan shot video below.

The Chili’s did tour with Nirvana back in 1991. Anthony Kiedis once admitted on an interview with Howard Stern that he was “pretty nervous” around Kurt Cobain. He continued saying he was “in awe” of his (Cobain) work and Cobain “wasn’t the type who wanted to discuss being a frontman, he was just kind of shy and in his energetic state.”
